Orphan diseases
There are now over 300 million people living with one or more of over 6,000 identified rare diseases around the world, each supported by family, friends and caregivers. Currently a medication is only available for about 5% of all rare disease patients and their access to these treatments is often very problematic, due to regulatory and financial burdens.
A disease is considered rare when it affects fewer than 1 in 2,000 people1.
Owing to the broad diversity of disorders and relatively common symptoms, which can hide underlying rare diseases, initial misdiagnosis is common. In addition, symptoms differ not only from one disease to another, but also from one patient to the other suffering from the same disease.
At Arphio we are committed to making vital treatments for rare diseases more widely available worldwide.
